Its quite offensive when students gets admission to study a course in a university in Nigeria and after getting to make due payments and have put in so much efforts to his studies finally gets to be told that the course he/she is studying is not accredited by the NUC. Now this is the problems most young men and women in our Nigerian universities are currently facing. According to the National Universities Commission(NUC) its has been recently found out that over 150 courses studied  in the Nigerian's private and public Universities are still unaccredited. The Quality Assurance Department of the NUC which is in charge of accrediting in the universities made this clear. ' For a course to be accredited it must meet the Bench Mark Academic Standard (BMAS) which has been stipulated by the commission'.   After so much controversies on the method JAMB will be giving admission to aspirants this year as the usual post UME was said to be abolished, the Joint Admissions and matriculation board 2016  has said the admission will not be biased and wont be based on point system. It would therefore be determined by criteria of merit, catchmemt areas, and educationally disadvantaged states. JAMB however said that the admission using the point system allowed institutions admission to rely only on 'O' level examination result to grade students. As earlier promised by JAMB the portal which enables students to know the schools they have been posted to have been made available. Candidates can now check the institutions they have been posted to for the 2016 admission. The portal is yet made to be official on their website, which shows that candidates details are stil been uploaded. So if you check yours and it doe snot respond you can always check back. The barcelona football star Messi has been handed a jail term by a spanish court. He will therefore be spending time behind bars. Messi has been handed a 21yr imprisonment for tax fraud but he is unlikely to serve time in prison. Any sentence under two years can be suspended by the spanish law, meaning Messi is expected to avoid spending a day behing bars according to widespread sports. Messi, one of the world highest paid footballer was tried alongside his father, Jorge Horacio Messi for deceiving spain tax authority of €4.1m between 2007 and 2009. The 29yr old was accused of creating a number of fake companies Belize ad Uruguay to avoid taxation on his image lucrative rights. Mesii claimed he never suspected any wrong doings about his financial affairs but the court has found both he and his father guilty in the crime. The Federal Government has extended the public holiday to mark the Eid-El-Filtri salah celebration from wednesday to thursday 7th of july. This followed the directive of the president General of the Nigerian supreme council for islamic affairs Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar III, the sultan  of sokoto, to the effect that the ramadan fast has to continue till wednesday as a result of non-sighting of the moon. Government had earlier declared tuesday and wednesday as holiday to mark the salah celebration. He urged Nigerian to use this period of sober reflections to ensure harmony , unity and peaceful co-existence while giving full support to the administration of president Muhammadu Buhari in his effort to sustain socio-economic & political growth of the nation. U.S president Barack Obama wishes his daughter Malia a happy 18th birthday on the 4th july, the same day America celebrated their independence. Obama flanked by rapper Kendrick Lamar belted out a croaky happy birthday song to his daughter, while the crowd at the annual 4th of july party at the white house cheered on. Malia, who will begin her studies at  Havard in 2017 after graduating from high school in june, embraced Kendrick lamar and Janelle Monae on stage as the celebration went on.  It just so happens that we celebrate our country's birthday alongside my first daughter's so just a quickie happy birthday song for Malia, ' obama added before breaking into the song'.. The most awaited and most anticipated SUG week of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University awka is to commence on the 10th of July 2016. This 7 day program will include: praise night, health & fitness day, games, rag day and the pageantry competition. We still wonder how this is possible without the current SUG executive as no election was held this year. I believe the incumbent executive will play every necessary role for this to be worthwhile.
